You recently attended the Small Satellite Conference at Utah State
University. What was that like?
The Small Satellite Conference is a fascinating show because it attracts
many of the smaller companies operating in the sector. These companies
often work behind the scenes in the space industry. They support the big
payload providers around the worldwide with mission-ready applications,
both on the commercial side and for defense. Their involvement in shows
like these bring an inspiring level of entrepreneurial spirit.
In addition, as a company, we get to see new developments in the
marketplace first-hand. We can engage in an open forum to debate the
issues and share ideas about what's happening in the market space, as well
as learn about exciting opportunities relating to that.
Where do you see future opportunities opening up for Teledyne Space
Imaging in particular across the Americas?
Teledyne e2v Space Imaging is in a very good position right now, due to
the sensors that we're developing that are compatible with the latest
space missions currently underway in the Americas and Europe. Our broad
portfolio of very high-resolution sensors allows us to address most of the
market segments that are out there right now, from the smaller CubeSat
market to the larger payload players in the industry.
Elsewhere, both the commercial and defense markets are expanding their use
of satellite technologies. For example, a lot of work is being done around
climate change and weather observation that we are getting more and more
involved in. We are in a really strong position to help these important
applications evolve in the Americas and beyond.
What do you believe sets Teledyne e2v Space Imaging apart from its
competitors in the Americas?
One of the biggest things is our heritage. We have more than 40 years of
experience working in the space sector, putting sensors in space for some
of the biggest programs in the world. As the space sector continues to
evolve, so we will grow along with it and develop new products that can be
used for other missions to meet those needs also.
Our customers can trust in our expertise as our proven brand portfolio
shows that we offer invaluable input into critical missions, whether on
the charge-coupled device (CCD) side, or newer technology around
complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) devices.
Customers come to us because they know that choosing our devices for their
mission means they won’t have to worry about operational failures. Our
teams are dedicated to working collaboratively with customers to offer
them the best solution possible, regardless of price. They can trust that
our sensors will meet their programs’ needs.
Where do you see opportunities in the future for Teledyne e2v Space
Imaging overall?
Teledyne e2v Space Imaging is currently one of the key driving forces in
the space and satellite imaging market. I believe we have a great
opportunity chance to keep on leading the way. What’s more, thanks to the
collaborative approach that we take with our other Teledyne divisions,
we're able to take products that were developed for other sectors such as
the machine vision market or the military, and put them into the core
space technology markets as well.
It’s a very exciting time for us, because we're currently welcoming new
business development people to help us do more of this collaborative
working. They are helping the business expand in several different
directions at once, and are bringing a lot of entrepreneurial spirit and
new ideas to the team.
You are growing your team and currently recruiting for the Teledyne e2v
Space Imaging Americas sales team?
We currently have two business development positions open in the Americas.
One would suit a commercial space person, and the other is for someone to
focus more on the defence side. Both roles will offer the successful
candidates incredibly exciting opportunities to help drive the market and
inform its developments. I can say in all honesty that Teledyne e2v Space
Imaging allows its sales people to really get involved in future
decision-making and planning.
In the 35 years I've been working in this industry, I have actually found
Teledyne e2v Space Imaging to be the most open team I've ever worked with.
Your value as a sales person or business development specialist is valued
and you are allowed to voice your opinions and ideas. Being able to have
direct input into how a company works, all the way up the ladder, is a
very special thing indeed.
